Premature opening of aortic valve in severe aortic regurgitation.

Premature opening of the aortic valve in late diastole has been demonstrated by echocardiography in a patient with severe aortic regurgitation. Valve opening coincided with the end of the diastolic murmur and equalization of aortic and left ventricular diastolic pressures. Echocardiography of the aortic valve in severe aortic reflux may, therefore, provide valuable information about the underly...

Mid-diastolic aortic valve opening in severe acute aortic regurgitation.

A case of severe acute aortic regurgitation is reported. Echocardiographic findings included mid-diastolic opening of the aortic valve, premature closure of the mitral valve, diastolic shuddering of the anterior mitral leaflet, probable demonstration of the flail aortic cusp in the left ventricular outflow tract, and increased left atrial and left ventricular dimensions. Correlation with hemody...

A rare cause of severe aortic regurgitation: quadricuspid aortic valve.

Quadricuspid aortic valve (QAV) is a rare cause of valve failure. Often, it is an incidental finding at transesophageal echo (TEE), surgery or post-mortem examination. This anomaly is often associated with abnormally placed left coronary ostium that could be damaged during the operation. We report a case of QAV detected incidentally during perioperative TEE.
